Huawei Ascend G615 aka Honor 2

Post by gemx » Wed Feb 13, 2013 5:50 pm

After using your great for nearly about 1,5 years with my aging Desire Z i decided that time has come to get a new more up-to-date phone.
I went for the quite new Huawei Ascend G615 aka Honor 2.
While i am impressed so far with the phone especially taking into account it's price (299,- €) i was shocked when i installed all my apps - one of the first being your rsap app, which said "The phone is not compatible".

It currently runs Android 4.0.4 and i am pretty sure it's very near a pure AOSP.
Also my VW comfort car kit doesn't recognize the phone.
It finds the phone but when i click "connect" it says "incompatible phone".

Is there a chance that you can just disable the check for the compatible phone and just give the installer a try and see if it works?

Just let me know if you need any more informations.
Attached is a screenshot showing the exact baseband version and so on.

Hope to hear from you :-)

BTW: Just found out that the Ascend G615 is indeed identical to the Honor 2, perhaps this helps

The currently available rSAP system files only work with HTC and Samsung phones, so it will most probably not help if I modify the installer. Does your phone have a file /system/lib/libril-qc-qmi-1.so?

No, there is only a "libril.so" in /system/lib.
So, is there any hope?

Hmm, just had a look at the MIUI custom rom for the Honor2 but there is also only a "libril.so" in "/system/lib"

Well, i am also a sw developer and if there is anything i can dig into or check etc. to help just let me know.
I am willing to help as much as i can but i will need at least a hint were to start.

Also, since i use my car and my carkit nearly every i would like to donate if there is even a chance that rsap can be ported to this device.

The problem is the RIL interface and the radio/baseband software. Both are not open source and the RIL interface does not have all functions necessary for SIM access. For the phones I implemented rSAP so far, I found undocumented interfaces to implement the necessary functions. This involves hours of disassembling ARM code with IDA :ugeek:

I asked for the libril-qc-qmi-1.so because it is quite common and I hope I can release a generic solution for all phones that use it. At least it already works on the Nexus 4.

It kinda works... I made many experiments, now I have to clean up everything. This might take a few days. I already created a forum for the Nexus 4, so watch there.
