USB Mass Storage Connection vs MTP Connection

Post by CraigCampbell » Sun Nov 04, 2012 10:38 am

I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S3. It has Android 4.0.4 (ICS). However, when i tried to connect it to my VW EOS car (RNS 510 audio system) via a USB cable, the car failed to recognise the device. It worked with my previous phone, an HTC Desire. Upon reading a wee bit, it looks like ICS drops USB Mass Storage support in favour of MTP. Is this why the connections doesn't work? Is there any way around this? Is this something you can turn your brilliant mind to?

I heard rumours that Android 4.1 Jelly bean returns USB mass storage, so if true, i guess the problem may go away and it may not be worth your while. But cant find anything to confirm/deny the rumours.

I read somewhere that you can change this on rooted devices (at least the Galaxy Nexus), but didn't look further.

EDIT: this may help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthr ... ?t=1711009
