Simply try a different SIM card.

Thx, but didn't need to change the card: had to switch the phone to show only the contacts from the SIM, and it worked!

SAP v2 does NOT support the transfer of phone-stored phonebook entries over bluetooth (i.e. v2 does not have PBAP); You need SAP v3 or v4 for that I believe. SAP v2 will only automatically transfer SIM card phonebook entries.
