Merc system loses SMS messages

Post by seanh » Wed May 29, 2013 12:09 pm

I've got my Samsung S3 mini working fine with SAP V3 module on Mercedes with Comand.

As before with my Blackberry, text messages are notified and can be viewed via Comand. However, unlike Blackberry, these messages do not appear on the phone handset afterwards? What could be the reason for the 'car' not leaving text messages on the phone? You don't even need to read them. Yesterday a text came through while in car, I did not view it but later when looking at the phone; no message?

Any ideas on this one?

This is one of the few drawbacks of rSAP...

In ancient times SMS were stored on the SIM card. It didn't matter whether the mobile or the car phone stored the message, everyone was able to read it. The problem was that there is not much space for messages on the SIM card. Android phones now have a separate database for SMS, while the car phone still stores them on the SIM card - or even in their own database. The Android SMS app has the possibility to read messages from the SIM card somewhere in it's settings. You should find the missing messages there.

I created a plugin that redirects messages which the car phone tries to write to the SIM card to the internal Android database and vice versa. Sadly it doesn't seem to work as well as it should and I cannot find the time to improve it.

Maybe the Blackberry is like an ancient phone, or it has a better working redirection ;)
