Just to clear things up: most (all?) car related Bluetooth profiles are "passive" i.e. they wait until the car addresses them. So it's not that my app doesn't know the car, but the car doesn't know the rSAP profile. Think of the profiles as of different languages: your car doesn't "speak" rSAP and I still don't know what profiles it is able to "speak" for phonebook transfer. The HCI logs record all Bluetooth communication, not only with my apps. So if they are empty there was no communication between car and phone at all.

Does my phonebook app show a "last connected" under one profile?

Umm there was as I made about 50 phone calls during that time, as long as I don't say yes to accept phonebook transfer the Bluetooth hands free part of the car Bluetooth works perfect.

I have not installed your phonebook app as before nothing happened and nothing has happened since.

Just so you know I will explain how I par my phone to the car, the car is a Vauxhall Antara SUV and has the built in Vauxhall stereo, it's made by Grundig I think and model is DVD NAVI 100.

I turn on discoverable on the car phone and use your app <trial> to search for Bluetooth, the default pairing screen <Samsung> pops up and asks me to enter the code, which is 0000, the phone then pairs as normal all the time your app is showing not connected, I then get another standard android/Samsung box pop up asking if I want to give my car permission to use the phonebook, if I say yes here and tick the box to always allow the car will keep dropping the handsfree out every 10-15 secs, if I say no to the phonebook and tick the always remember the phone works fine but with no phonebook, it pairs everytime I get in my car just as it should.

Like I mentioned before, I have an iphone 5 in white which works perfect, phonebook everything. My missus has a white SGS3 with the latest firmware un rooted and it does exactly the same as mine ie it will not pair properly if you accept phone book transfer.

Does this help at all?

Once more the question: When you have my phonebook app installed, does it show a "last connected"? Does Android still ask for phonebook access when you have my phonebook app installed?
