International dialling code suppression?

Post by gooman » Thu Feb 06, 2014 11:52 am

My car kit (Jabra Cruiser 2) recognises incoming calls, matches the number to entries in the downloaded phone book and then gives a voice announcement of the name of the incoming caller.

I've been scratching my head to work out why it's only announcing some - and it seems to be down to whether I have the phone number in my Contacts with a leading +44 for the UK, or just with the phone number as dialled within the UK.

When it includes a +44 the car kit isn't recognising the incoming number, as it starts with a 0.

Would it be possible to add an International dialling code suppression mechanism? This would need the user to specify the leading characters to match and suppress ("+44" in my case) and the characters to replace them with ("0" in my case).

I plan to integrate the Google "libphonenumber" which offers 3 basic phone number formats:

INTERNATIONAL: "+41 44 668 18 00"
NATIONAL: "044 668 18 00"
E164: "+41446681800"

I hope this will fix some problems with phone numbers, e.g. other cars seem to have problems with spaces in the phone number.
